Lindsey State Jail Initiative

Warden Grady Wallace reached out to Workforce Solutions North Texas in the fall of 2019 about providing training to inmates at the Lindsey State Jail in Jacksboro, TX. His goal is to ensure their successful reintegration back into society upon release. Prison inmates who receive general education and vocational training are significantly less likely to return to prison after release and are more likely to find employment than those who do not receive such opportunities.

Workforce Solutions North Texas has partnered with Weatherford College and Management & Training Corporation (MTC) to provide Logistics training to individuals who are currently incarcerated at the Lindsey State Jail and are within 90 days of being released. The Logistics training is approximately six weeks in length. Upon completion students will have two certifications: Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) and Certified Logistics Technician Certification (CLT).

This training is taught by Weatherford College onsite at Lindsey State Jail with minimal tools and without the use of the internet. Upon release individuals can work in warehouses and distribution centers such as Walmart and Amazon. The entry hourly wage for positions in the Wichita Falls MSA is $13.12 – $22.97, depending on the position and the company.

The overall goal of this initiative is to reduce recidivism and help inmates obtain gainful employment upon their release.

Thus far, a total of 20 inmates have successfully completed this program. The first class was interrupted in March due to COVID-19 visitor restrictions, but all nine trainees received their first certificate. This program relaunched in November of 2020 with 11 trainees. Every effort is made to keep the students and staff safe. Visitors are screened prior to entry, everyone is required to wear a mask, and students remain behind plexiglass.
