Ashley’s Story: Nursing

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ashley was laid off from her job in production. She is a single mom and needed a career that would be reliable so she could support her two children. She chose nursing so she would not have to worry about job security again.

With the help of North Texas Works, Ashley began LVN training at Vernon College in October 2020. She obtained her LVN license in December 2021. Ashley began working as an LVN at Encompass Health in January 2022, making $21/hr.

Ashley said she was thankful she was referred to the North Texas Works program while she was receiving unemployment, because it was “an absolute lifesaver”. She said, “I really don’t know what I would have done without this program’s assistance. I don’t believe I would be where I am today.”
