Market Street United Wins Local Employer of Excellence Award
Workforce Solutions North Texas is proud to recognize Market Street United as the region’s 2022 Local Employer of Excellence. Market Street United accepted the award at the Texas Workforce Commission’s (TWC) 25th Annual Texas Workforce Conference held November 30–December 2, 2022, in Dallas. The award honors private-sector employers that are actively involved with Texas Workforce Solutions and make a positive impact on workers, the community, and the state.
Workforce Solutions North Texas (WSNT) regularly partners with United Supermarkets in support of the great work they do enhancing the skills of the North Texas workforce. They place high importance on training, and they have piloted many innovative strategies for upskilling their workers and recruitment. They offer quick, 2-5-minute training modules for their employees that can be completed during the lulls between customers.
Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, grocery stores were essential and did not shut down. Market Street United leadership in Wichita Falls leveraged partnerships with local restaurants who were forced to lay off workers or close. United approached the restaurants about a growing need for essential workers and were able to recruit from the food service industry to help these unemployed individuals get back into a job quickly. This cooperative referral system accounted for more than 83 hires in a very short amount of time during the height of the pandemic. They also implemented financial incentives for workers’ attendance and for working additional hours beyond their schedule.
And finally, United supports local community organizations through food and monetary donations and have their “U Crew” who volunteer time to community projects. They have also participated as a worksite for multiple on the job training programs in partnership with WSNT each year and even invited WSNT into the inner workings of their store to produce a career video for North Texas youth to learn about the grocery and retail industry. The influence on the communities they serve and emphasis on career development is impressive, and it is making a big impact in North Texas.
“The Local Employer of Excellence Award highlights the importance of partnerships between Workforce Solutions and Texas employers,” said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel. “These employers exemplify innovation and commitment to their communities by expanding opportunities to the local workforce as they grow their businesses.”
Workforce Solutions North Texas wins two awards totaling $125,000
TWC also honored Texas Workforce Development Boards for exemplary service to their communities during the 2022 Texas Workforce Conference.
